Doing Business Since: 03/13
Dillon Hankins got the entrepreneurial bug at an early age.
"When I was 13 years old I wanted some extra money so I went door to door in my neighborhood and asked everyone if they wanted me to mow their lawns," Hankins laughed. "I got my start right then and there when one of the neighbors was having a garage sale and flagged me down."
It was the start of Helping Hands Lawn Care and has been growing every year for the past 3 years and mowing over 500 yards yearly.
Not even being able to drive at that time, the Georgia native had to borrow his parents push mower and walk to all his clients at first. Now he is fully decked out with all commercial equipment and has over 20 recurring homeowners on his routes.
Helping Hands Lawn Care specializes in the neighborhoods of Wingate, Campbell Station, Church Hill Farms, and Benevento in Spring Hill, Tn but are always looking to expand into other areas of Spring Hill.
When asked what is the best way to earn a customer's repeat customer, Hankins explains "After every cut, I ask all of the homeowners if there is anything they would like to see different or anything that I can do to make their lawn look better." "This allows me to make sure they are happy, build trust, and are getting exactly what they are paying for," Dillon says.
Following in his father footsteps who has several businesses of his own, Dillon always knew that he wanted to own his own business. "Starting at such an early age, mowing lawns was all I could do," Dillon chuckles. "I couldn’t drive anywhere but I could walk!"
With that type of drive and determination, we see big things on the horizon for Helping Hands and Dillon.
When he is not out service the Spring Hill and surrounding areas, you can find Dillon playing tennis or hanging out with family and friends. "Tennis is my stress reliever," Dillon explains. "It is a mental and physical challenge for me."
If you are in the Spring Hill area and need some lawn work done, let the Ace's at Helping Hands take care of all your lawn needs.
How many years have you been in landscaping business, and what inspired you to get started?
I first started in 2013. I was 14 years old and I had a Partner who was 16 at the time. We started with a push mower and weedeater going door to door. The business grew surprisingly fast. The second year I began to work Solo and the business continued to expand. I am now expanding farther than before because I have a license to drive a little longer distances. Overall since 2013 I have been making the community a nicer place one yard at a time.
How does your work stand out from other lawn service companies in the area?
My work stands out because I take more time on the finer details that make the greatest difference. I am not a huge company so I have the ability to take another 15 minutes to check and recheck all the little things. Other larger companies have the goal of finishing as fast as possible. Thats not my modo.
What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
In my opinion the thing that makes or breaks a lawn is edging. Whether its the first or 20th time my customers use me they have a nice clean edge. Make sure the other company is able to that. If they can't accomplish that then you are not getting maximum service.
What do you like most about the lawn care industry?
By far my favorite thing is seeing the transformation a lawn can have within a week or two.
What areas do you mainly service?
I most just do basic lawn care (mow, weed eat, edge, blow) but occasionally I will do extra side jobs.
