This Pro Story
I am a self employed home inspector, but plow snow and cut grass to make xtra $$, but also because I enjoy it. I have been cutting grass since I was a young kid, doing it for neighbors etc. My first job was as as a groundskeeper at a 27 hole golf course, I worked there through high school & college during the summers. Spent most of my days operating various types of lawn mowers, tractors, and various other types of equipment. I now work as a self employed home inspector, but I still enjoy being outdoors and cutting grass when I'm not inspecting. I use a 33" walk behind mower. This is not as big as the larger walk behind mowers that a lot of the big lawn care companies use, but is big enough to make quick work of a typical residential lawn (1/2 acre or less). It also fits through most small single gates, whereas the bigger mowers will not. *Please note, lawns that have not been mowed in several weeks and are overgrown (10" +), will require additional time, and will require an additional charge to cut.

What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
While price is a factor in deciding who to hire, it should not be the only factor. Experience is also important. Professionalism & integrity are also important. If you just need your weeds knocked down, and don’t care how it looks, hire the cheapest person. If you care about you lawn appearance, prepare to pay a little more. There really is a difference between mowing it just to cut it, and mowing it to make it look nice. The latter takes a little more time than the first.
