The best and worst time to cut grass (Infographic)

What is the best time of the day to mow the lawn?

This infographic shows the best and worst times to mow the lawn. So what is the best time to mow the lawn? The simple answer is mid-morning. Why? Mid morning is the optimal time of day because most of the morning dew has evaporated away. Additionally, cutting the lawn in the mid morning is best because you are avoiding the full heat of the sun. Cutting the lawn when it is too hot, can burn the lawn.

If you can not mow the lawn in the mid-morning, what other times are good to cut the lawn?

As this infographic shows, late afternoon is the second best time of day to mow the lawn. The thinking behind mowing the lawn in mid afternoon is nearly the same reasoning behind mowing the lawn in mid morning. The lawn is dry, and you are avoiding the full heat of the sun, which can burn the lawn

Can I cut the lawn in the middle of the day?

Yes, although it is not the best time to mow the lawn. The biggest concern with mowing in the middle of the day is the heat of the sun. Typically the sun’s heat is not a problem, however, if you do not regularly maintain the lawn. Cutting the lawn in the middle of the day can damage your grass. However, if your blades are sharp, and you are minding the 1/3rd rule in the lawn, cutting the grass in the middle of the day is generally OK.

What is the worst day to cut the lawn?

The worst time to cut the lawn is in the early morning. This is mostly due to the fact that the grass will be covered in dew. This is a problem because moisture can make the grass harder to cut. Not only will your lawn mower deck get clogged with grass, you will be likely to tear the grass rather than cut it.

The second worst time to cut the lawn is near the end of the day. When you cut the lawn, your grass needs time to recover before nightfall. This is because as dew sets in, it can invite the spread of fungus and disease. Of course. One time of cutting a healthy lawn at night fall is not a problem.

However, if your lawn is susceptible to disease, or is already diseased, cutting the grass at night can spread the illness throughout the lawn.

As this infographic shows you should aim to cut the lawn in mid morning or mid afternoon, and the worst time to cut is at nightfall or in the middle of the day. Be sure to share this infographic on the best time to mow the lawn with your friends and family!
