Previously though, the city was once referred to as Buchananville prior to the name change as settlers began moving into the region while creating farms and smaller communities. Much of the city’s history is are in full display and it is even commemorated every year in a program called “Celebrate La Vergne History,” which residents attend at the Civic Auditorium. The city of La Vergne is located in the northern part of Rutherford County. Being particularly close to Nashville, it is also situated in the Nashville metro area. According to the United States Census, the city had a population of 32,588 in 2010, a number that was once 7,499 in 1990. That number rose to an estimated population of 34,423 in 2018.
La Vergne also is particularly located right by neighborhoods near Antioch, Percy Priest Lake, Nolensville, Brentwood, Smyrna, and of course all lead towards Nashville. The major US Route 70 and 41 intersect through the area, along with Interstate 24. Because it is so close to Percy Priest Lake, La Vergne offers a small-town feel while offering the amenities of a big city just a few miles away. Residents can visit Veterans Memorial Park or attend the Light Up La Vergne or Old Timers Festival.
