Site Directory FAQs

Quick answers to help you find the right lawn care provider in your area.

What is GreenPal?

GreenPal is a website and app that lets you compare quotes from local lawn pros, book service, and pay when the job is done. It’s free to use for homeowners.

How does it work?

Enter your address and date. Local pros review your lawn online and send bids. You pick your favorite based on price, ratings, and photos. After the work, you get a photo to approve and then pay.

Is GreenPal free for me?

Yes. There are no platform fees for homeowners. You pay the price you agree to with the lawn company you select.

Do I need a credit card to get quotes?

No. You can get bids without adding a card. You’ll add payment only when you’re ready to hire.

Is GreenPal in my city?

GreenPal operates across most of the U.S. You can check the service areas page to confirm coverage in your town.

Can I use GreenPal for snow removal or cleanup jobs?

Yes. Many pros offer snow removal and seasonal cleanups. Request those services in your account to receive quotes.

Who sets the price?

Each lawn company sets its own price and bids for your job. GreenPal does not set rates.

Why was my first cut higher than the ongoing price?

First visits and tall grass take longer. Pros may add a tall grass or one-time cleanup surcharge. Providing photos before the first cut helps them price it accurately.

What’s included in a basic mow?

A standard mow typically includes mowing, trimming around obstacles, edging hard surfaces, and blowing off clippings for grass under about 6 to 10 inches. Ask about extras before booking.

Will they bag or haul away clippings?

Some vendors will if requested. Many mulch or side-discharge by default. Bagging or hauling may cost extra.

When is my card charged?

After you receive and approve the completion photo, your card is charged through the vendor’s Stripe account, usually at midnight on the service day.

Who charges my card: GreenPal or the lawn company?

The lawn company you hire charges you directly through Stripe. GreenPal does not bill your card.

Can I tip in the app?

Yes. Tipping is optional. You can leave a tip once or set an auto-tip if you want.

Are there hidden fees?

There are no platform fees for homeowners. You pay the price quoted by the vendor. Vendors control their own pricing and may include card-processing costs.

How do I get a receipt?

Your completion email and photo act as your digital invoice. You can save them for your records.

I was charged before I could approve. What now?

Use the 'Problem with my service' option in your dashboard to dispute. If you were already charged, contact the vendor to resolve or request a refund.

How do refunds work?

Since the vendor bills you directly, refunds are handled by that company. GreenPal cannot reverse charges after they settle. Use the dispute tool before charges finalize.

How do I update or remove my card?

Update your card in account settings. To remove a card from a vendor’s processor, cancel scheduled appointments first before removing the payment method.

How fast can I get service?

Most homeowners see bids within hours. Many receive service the same day or next day depending on local availability.

What time will my lawn be cut?

Pros route lawns for efficiency, so expect a flexible window rather than a specific time. Weather and routing may shift the day slightly.

What happens if it rains?

Most pros reschedule to the next suitable day because mowing wet grass can damage turf. Watch for updates in your account.

Can I set weekly or bi-weekly service?

Yes. After your first cut, you can schedule weekly or every-two-weeks mowing through your account.

Can I book a one-time mow only?

Some vendors accept one-time jobs, but many prioritize recurring clients. One-time jobs may cost more or have limited availability.

How do I skip or pause service?

Cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours ahead to avoid late-cancel penalties set by the vendor.

Can I switch lawn companies later?

Yes. Cancel remaining appointments and request new quotes. You can get up to three rounds of fresh bids each year.

Will the same person come each time?

If you set up ongoing service with one vendor, the same company will typically service your lawn unless you switch.

Can I manage multiple properties in one account?

Yes. You can add multiple addresses and hire the same or different pros for each property.

How should I prep the yard on service day?

Unlock gates and remove obstacles like toys, hoses, and pet waste. Keep pets and children indoors for safety.

Do I need to be home?

No. You’ll receive a completion photo and a digital receipt.

How do I contact my pro?

You can text your vendor directly and add notes in your account for gate codes or special instructions.

How is quality verified?

Vendors upload a completion photo for every job. You can approve it or flag issues before payment is processed.

Are pros vetted?

GreenPal reviews equipment, references, and past work. Some background checks have been used historically. Still, check reviews and photos before hiring.

Are pros licensed and insured?

Vendors are independent businesses with their own policies. GreenPal encourages licensing and insurance, but cannot guarantee it. Ask vendors directly.

What if something is damaged?

Contact the vendor immediately with photos. If you have not approved payment, use the dispute tool in your dashboard.

Will they lock my gate after service?

Most will if requested. Add a note in your account and verify after service.

Is edging and trimming included?

Yes for normal-height grass. It is included in a standard mow unless specified otherwise in the quote.

Do they pull weeds or trim shrubs by default?

No. These are add-on services that require separate quotes.

Will they bag and haul leaves?

Leaf cleanup is a separate service with its own pricing. Get a quote before booking.

My grass is over 10 inches. Can they still mow it?

Yes, but expect a higher price and possibly multiple passes to protect the turf.

When do pros get paid after my service?

After you approve the job, funds are transferred to the vendor through Stripe, typically within 48 hours.

Is there a satisfaction guarantee?

Mowings are backed by the GreenPal Guarantee. If there’s an issue, dispute the job in your dashboard so the vendor can fix it.

Who do I contact if there’s a problem?

Start by contacting your lawn company. If the charge hasn’t finalized, use the dispute tool. If it has, work directly with the vendor.

Why does my bank statement show the lawn company’s name?

Because the vendor charges you directly through Stripe. This is expected.

Do vendors follow tax and business rules?

Vendors are independent businesses responsible for their own pricing, taxes, and policies.

Is there a contract? Can I cancel?

There is no long-term contract with GreenPal. Cancel upcoming visits in your account. Vendors may have their own cancellation rules.

How many times can I request fresh quotes in a year?

You can request up to three rounds of new quotes per year.

Where can I see reviews from real customers?

You can view reviews on each vendor’s profile, along with public ratings from customers.

How do pros estimate my lawn without a site visit?

Pros use satellite imagery and your notes to estimate lawn size, time, and complexity before bidding.

Can I invite my current lawn person to use GreenPal?

Yes. Share the vendor sign-up link so they can manage billing and photos through the platform.

Do pros offer services like aeration, mulch, or fertilization?

Many pros offer additional services. Hire a mowing vendor first, then request quotes for extras.

Can I negotiate a bid?

You can ask the lawn company after you hire them, but bids are set by each company. Prices reflect yard size, grass height, and their route.

Why did a bid disappear from my list?

Providers control their own schedules. If their route fills up, they may withdraw a bid. Request new quotes when that happens.

Do bids expire?

There is no fixed expiration, but availability changes. If you wait and a bid vanishes, request fresh quotes.

How are bids ordered when they come in?

They are ordered by how fast the provider submitted them. You will see up to five, plus each provider's reviews.

Can I ask for small-gate access only?

Yes. Add it in Special Requests during signup so only companies with smaller mowers bid. Text your provider after hiring to confirm.

How do I tell the pro my preferred mowing height or areas to skip?

Put it in Special Requests and follow up by text after you hire. Clear notes prevent re-work.

Do bids include trimming fence lines and blowing off hard surfaces?

That is typical for a standard mow when grass is not overgrown, but confirm in your notes. Add extra tasks as add-ons.

How do I change from weekly to bi-weekly or 10-day later?

Update your schedule in the dashboard. It overwrites the old one. Text your provider to confirm.

Can I pause mowing for a few weeks?

Yes. Adjust the dates in your schedule so no visits are booked during that span.

Can I skip just this week?

Move your next visit in the Schedule screen, then confirm with your provider.

Why cannot I get an exact time of day?

Lawn companies route stops for efficiency and weather. Expect a 3-day window around your date.

Will I be notified before arrival?

Use text to confirm timing directly with your provider. It is the quickest way to get an update.

My HOA restricts noise early in the morning. What can I do?

Add those hours in Special Requests and text your provider after hiring. Most will try to work with you.

Can I request mornings only?

You can ask, but routes rule the day. The 3-day window still applies.

What happens if it rains on my scheduled day?

Most companies slide you to the next dry day within the 3-day window. Message them if you need a specific date.

Where do I see the completion photo?

It appears in your dashboard and email after the mow, before you approve payment.

Can I request before and after photos?

Completion photos are standard. If you want before shots too, ask your provider by text.

Can I pay before the photo arrives?

No. You approve after you see the photo, then the provider's processor charges your card.

What if I forget to approve?

You have until midnight the same day to approve or open a dispute from the photo screen.

Can I split a payment across two cards?

No. It processes through one card on the provider's Stripe account. Update your card first if needed.

Do you take PayPal or prepaid gift cards?

No PayPal, and providers do not accept prepaid or gift cards. Use a valid credit or debit card.

Can I add a tip later?

Yes. Use the tip option in your account or add it to the next visit.

How do I change or turn off auto-tip?

Open the tip settings in the app or web and adjust or disable AutoTip.

How do refunds work?

Start in your dashboard with Problem with my service. The lawn company you hired handles refunds through their processor.

Why does my bank statement show the company name, not GreenPal?

Because the company you hired bills you directly through their own merchant account.

Why am I seeing sales tax?

Some states require it. Tax rules vary by state.

Can I download or print an invoice?

Yes. Go to My Schedule, open the past appointment, then select View or Print Invoice.

I am not getting texts or bid alerts.

Verify your phone number and messaging settings. Text start to the provided number if needed.

I am not getting emails either.

Verify your email, check spam, and add the sender to your contacts.

The app is glitchy on my phone.

Use the mobile website for a more stable experience.

Why do my quotes vary a lot?

Companies weigh yard size, grass height, and routing differently. Prices may vary fairly between pros.

Can I get more quotes without starting over?

Yes. Check back later or request new bids if availability opens up.

Do quotes include taxes or tall-grass fees?

Quotes cover the mow. Taxes depend on your state. Tall-grass or bagging fees can be extra.

Can I book mowing and leaf cleanup for the same visit?

Often yes. Add the extra work request so the company can quote it accurately.

Will the provider haul away leaves or branches?

That is an add-on with its own price. Ask for it up front.

Can I book aeration, overseeding, or fertilizing?

Many companies offer these services. Hire your mowing provider first, then request quotes for extras.

Do you handle big estates or tiny postage-stamp lawns?

Yes. The network supports very small yards up to multi-acre properties.

A sprinkler head was damaged. What now?

Message the company first and use the dispute option before payment finalizes. Document with photos.

Do you mow on holidays?

Routes are set by each company. Text them to confirm the plan for that week.

How do I make sure the same crew comes each time?

Set ongoing service with the same company and keep your schedule consistent.

Can I schedule a cleanup day after the first cut?

Yes. Once they see the yard, many companies will quote larger cleanup work.

Can I see reviews inside the bids?

Yes. Each bid includes reviews to help you decide.

Are those reviews real?

Yes. Reviews come from verified work done through the platform.

How does GreenPal judge provider reliability?

Providers have reliability and ongoing-rate metrics based on performance with customers.

Is the provider an employee or contractor of GreenPal?

Neither. They are independent businesses that use the platform to market and manage their schedules.

What should I do before service day?

Unlock gates, pick up toys and hoses, and add any codes or pet notes to your request.

My gate is narrow and the backyard is tight. Will they still mow it?

Many companies carry smaller mowers for tight access. Mention it in Special Requests.

How do I unsubscribe from emails?

Click unsubscribe at the bottom of any email.

How do I delete my account?

Cancel upcoming visits, then use Delete My Account in your profile.

Can I use Spanish or Chinese in the help center?

Yes. Help content is available in multiple languages.
